Set on several acres within the city of Portland, Hopewell House offers a quiet haven of calm and restoration.
Here, the natural surroundings are not separate from the experience of care—they are part of it.
Created and tended with intention by our volunteer garden team, the grounds are thoughtfully cultivated for all who spend time here. Flower gardens, fountains, and quiet seating areas invite moments of pause, while many resident rooms look out onto a peaceful canopy of trees. A gazebo and woodland path offer space to step outside, breathe deeply, and listen to birdsong.
These outdoor spaces are a gentle extension of the care held within the house—offering beauty, stillness, and connection to the natural world.

The beautiful refurbished gazebo with covered seating is surrounded by native Oregon plantings and lovely views of the forested area in the back of the house. Sit, relax and enjoy.
A peaceful labyrinth for walking and contemplating. Listen to the crunch of the rocks as you move toward the heart’s center.

Take a moment to head to the top of the garden. The wisteria-shaded bench is a place of solace and serenity. The outdoor table offers a great place to have lunch or a cup of coffee. Check out the poetry box and stained glass mural.
This hidden gem is worth finding. The sunny, quiet garden offers a stone bench for seating and contemplation. Enjoy the beautiful Japanese maple, the aroma of herbs and blooms through fall.

The “veranda” next to the original front door can offer a quiet reprieve. Let the comfortable seating, beautiful moonlight white flowers and sounds of the fountain lull you into a state of relaxation.
An arborist estimated that this beautiful cedar is 300 years old! The rings of cedars around are branches from the main tree and have become trees as the soil level has risen over time. Walk around its base and look up and be prepared to be awed by this amazing specimen.

The nature trail through Hopewell’s wooded area was restored by an Eagle Scout and local troop. It is an uphill walk on bark chips with many steps and four benches awaiting you at the top. The perfect private place for reflection and peace surrounded by nature.
