Outdoor Spaces
The HeartPath
We are excited to announce the newest addition to our grounds – the Hopewell HeartPath! This gorgeous labyrinth has been a longtime dream of many on the original work group to re-open Hopewell. Last fall, our own honorary council member Heidi Berkman was able to have a fortuitous encounter with a labyrinth designer, Lea Goode-Harris of Creative Labyrinths, and the Hopewell HearthPath project began. Through a wonderful collaborative effort with many contractors, the design, prep work, and installation moved forward in full force in February of this year. The generosity of these outside contractors was overwhelming, and we are so grateful for the support of Creative Labyrinths, Bartlett Tree Services, and Teufel Landscaping. The work was fast and furious and we are thrilled to have completed phase one of the path now on our property!
Welcome to the Hopewell HeartPath
“There are layers upon layers of meaning in the ancient tool of the labyrinth. …the best way to learn about labyrinths is to walk one– with an open heart and an open mind. Then allow your experiences to guide you.”
– Dr. Lauren Artress, Walking A Sacred Path
What is a Labyrinth?
No one quite knows the original origin of labyrinths and when they first were designed. What we do know is that they have existed for thousands of years and come in a variety of designs, usually encompassing the same path in and out….taking you to a center place, both literally and metaphorically. Patterns in nature are an integral part of labyrinth design. Those who walk a labyrinth have an opportunity to find out a bit more about themselves and the world around them. We are all on the same path in life, walking together and the labyrinth can provide space for us all, regardless of our background or beliefs.

“It was a joy to co-create the Hopewell House HeartPath with the team that came together to make this space happen. This is a place for all who come to visit, stay or work at Hopewell House. A place out of time to be with the heart and the emotions of being with those who are transitioning from this Earth. This is a place of peace, reflection, and connection with the beauty of being on the path together.”
